EDA’s final workshop of the academic year focused on how to market your product/service to potential clients.

In the first part of the event, John Ch Wu, Osgoode law student and CEO at Legally Inc.

shared the story of his journey of creating his start-up and the lessons that he gained

through his experience. He emphasized the importance of marketing, which begins from

the moment of the conception of the idea. Marketing needs to be integrated to the product itself and should facilitate in getting your idea to the market.

Wu also talked about the process of how he created his award-winning business. His

came up with his business idea after identifying a source of pain of people and offering a

solution for it. Legally Inc. provides a convenient and simple solution to lengthy and

painful legal issues that citizens face.

Next, Raphael Costa, Manager of Vaughan Enterprise talked about the resources offered

by Vaughan Enterprise to student and youth entrepreneurs.

Peyman Aleagha, Founder & CEO of WebsiteBox did a presentation about marketing

and sales strategies. He pointed out that small business fail because they are unable to

differentiate their business and get the word out. Thus, it is important to measure your

key performance indicators.

Moreover, students learned about the importance of subscription and client acquisition

cost versus client value. Aleagha explained that the lifetime value that is offered by your

business should be greater than the client acquisition cost. He also provided a formula

for growth potential identifying how to double your revenue, which encouraged

members to think about numbers, metrics, and strategy. Members were able to view

the business model with a more innovative approach, as they had to consider costs

versus value, growth potential, and customer value optimization.

The event ended with a networking portion with all of the guest speakers as well as Bill

Jouni and peter Albert.

Through this workshop, learned about effective marketing and sales strategies that can

be implemented for their startup, and also obtained insights by hearing a fellow student

entrepreneur’s journey of entrepreneurship.
