Student Success Stories 2015-2016

Akram Ali
My name is Akram Ali and I was the Accounting Director for EDA from September 2015 to April 2016. Working for EDA has provided me with many opportunities to learn and grow as a business professional.

The organization is filled with wonderful people with various backgrounds whom I learned a lot from as well has a culture that embraces diversity, responsibility and inclusiveness. The experience that I gained from the association played a key role in allowing me to attain an Internship as a Business Analyst at Canadian Tire. Overall, volunteering at EDA has been a life-changing experience for me and I have absolutely no regrets in being part of this organization.
It has been a great honour to be part of the EDA team especially the opportunity to work with the executives and guest speakers. I volunteered as the photographer specialist throughout the winter semester, 2016. During this time with EDA, I had the privilege to interact with knowledgeable and expert entrepreneurs. Besides the networking aspect, I also gained more in-depth understanding of Entrepreneurship which was truly a worthwhile experience.
As a result of being part of EDA, I was hired for a summer internship as the Social Media Manager by one of the guest speakers, Genco Cebecioglu, CEO of Junction Design. Overall, it was worthwhile to attend and take part in the workshops. After all, my successful story all began with one small conversation at one of EDA's events. Thank you EDA for opening this platform opportunity. I truly appreciate it.

Tony Tran
My name is Tony Tran and I was part of the EDA executive team as the Communication and Media Director for the 2015-2016 academic year. As a chemistry major at York University, I only had been exposed to the academia culture. EDA has allowed me to experience the culture and the excitement involved in business and entrepreneurship.

I had this great opportunity to develop my entrepreneurial mindset through several workshops that EDA had offered during the year. I was able to learn from experienced entrepreneurs who shared their interesting journey in their startups. The workshop topics ranged from online marketing, personal development, maintaining your start-up company to crowdfunding. From this wealth of information, it had motivated me to put my ideas into action when I pursued my own business startup through the Ontario Summer Company initiative which I still currently run.

Thank you EDA as I was able to challenged myself and I have learned tremendously from this experience.
