
Workshop# 2 - Entrepreneurship as a Career
This workshop was created to guide students who have a desire to pursue entrepreneurship and/or those who were uncertain but like the possibility of becoming an entrepreneur. It consisted of two parts, an information session and a group engagement towards the end. Dr. Richardson emphasized on three main points: a) SWOT Analysis, b) Intelligent Theory c) Building Career capital She discussed the important of planning for your business or career in general this includes tackling the SWOT Analysis (Strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threat). Followed by the intelligent career theory this is based on the idea of 'knowledge' and the value of knowledge in todays and future labor market. This theory suggests 3 knowing: • Knowing WHY - this is having a sense of purpose and motivation. The Why helps drives a search for new career such as why do you want to start a business? • Knowing WHOM - this is who are you connecting with to build your professional network as well as develop your interpersonal relationships. • Knowing HOW - this is how are you utilizing your skills, expertise, and knowledge? In the end, students received learned new principles on career management as well as how to develop criteria for what they are looking for as they think about their business ideas.
